Your pup’s nails need to be kept at a healthy length. If he hear them clicking on the floor when he walks, they are probably too long. Time to trim!
Step 1: Pick up a paw, placing your forefinger on the top of a toe and your thumb on the pad underneath it. You’ll want to extend the nail. To do this, push your forefinger forward while pushing your thumb a bit up and back on the pad. Remember to do this gently.
Step 2: Using your other hand and a good pair of nail clippers, clip the tip of the nail, straight across. Be sure not to clip past the curve of the nail. Be careful not to clip too far up or you might hit the quick, which will hurt your pup and cause bleeding.
Step 3: Once the nails are clipped, look closely at your puppy’s paws, removing any foreign objects and noting any injuries.
